We are aware of the fact that the ACARA achievement standards for Civics and Citizenship ask students to investigate a social issue and plan for action to solve the issue. But , they do not ask for students to actually take action.
However, we at SEAQ believe that decision-making and taking action are at the heart of learning to be a citizen, and all students should know the feeling of being involved in something that enhances the Common Good.
We are hoping to gather together ideas for ways of taking action, and would like you to help us collect real examples that we can then share on our website. Schools do this in many ways through student councils, inspirational teachers, involved parents or pleas from local organisations.
Please post in this forum examples that you know of – local to global.
Rather than well-known examples (e.g. 40 hour Famine), we are particularly interested in novel ideas that came from students themselves.
Looking forward to seeing your examples.
