The Social Educators Association of Queensland (SEAQ) is the state professional body for social educators and community members interested in the advancement of social education and teaching Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS).
Teachers with experience in teaching the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area are invited to share knowledge and expertise in the form of presentations, articles or resources on either SEAQ's website or at SEAQ professional development events.
When teaching social education it is important to make our teaching as relevant as possible to students' lives.
One way to do this is to recognise special days that are important for our society. To mark these days as important, many schools undertake ceremonies or actions that allow students to act out their citizenship role.

The May 2015 edition of the 'Social Educator' Journal raises the importance of young people being educated for informed and active global citizenship. The authors suggest a 2018 declaration of educational aims for Australia where “students act with moral integrity, develop specific skills of problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, empathy and collaboration, to enable a fair, sustainable, compassionate and just world. It is hoped that such an education is transformative for personal, community and global well being.”
Work samples for Years 7–10 Civics and Citizenship
Work samples portfolios for Years 7–10 Civics and Citizenship have been published on the Australian Curriculum website. The work samples portfolios show ‘satisfactory’ and ‘above satisfactory’ student achievement of curriculum standards for Years 7–10 in Civics and Citizenship.
Work sample portfolios support teachers and schools in making balanced judgements of student performance over time, in relation to the relevant achievement standard. The portfolios have been selected, annotated and reviewed by classroom teachers and curriculum experts. (ACARA). See the work samples on the Australian Curriculum website.
